Where did the name 'Berger' come from?

Do you know what it means?

In a book on the meaning of German names found in the Rare Book Department of the University of Cincinnati Library we found the following entry:

"Berg, Bergmann, Berger:"

"Named after the place of habitation on or by a mountain (or hill):
therefore numerous in the southern and western parts of Germany."
